The conditions of modern life, especially in our era, do not help man to remain calm, so as to dynamically deal with the hardships of everyday life. A method to achieve calmness is the exercise of relaxation as taught in Server’s Society, the results of which are evident in a very short time.
Members of the Society who exercise meditation on a daily basis have provided us with examples of specific changes. Some mention that, when they relax for a few minutes before getting asleep, they sleep naturally and calmly; they, then, wake up in a state of rest, feeling revitalized enough to deal with the work of the new day. Others say that, when they perform the relaxation exercise in the morning, they find themselves to be in a much better mood while working and they generally adopt a more creative attitude. Many people also mention a health improvement; they feel their body to be stronger, full of energy and vitality.
The technique of relaxation is taught to beginner members of the Society in a simple way: One sits comfortably with his spinal cord being in a straight position; he closes his eyes and thinks only of the specific task he performs at the moment. He peacefully lets himself loose to feel the weight of his body and he watches his breath. The body’s stillness and the observance of it bring peace to the mind and ease off the emotions.
As relaxation continues, one may imagine that his body is within an abundance of light. This regard brings a sense of serenity that passes from the body to the mind and prepares man for new pursuits. This way, relaxation gradually leads to meditation, to going deep into ourselves and to the acquaintance with the world around us.
